Water for Food

THE NEED
Drought and failed farming methods lead to extreme hunger and highly disrupted communities in Western Zambia. When families are left with no food, village life is drastically affected. Women spend their days foraging for roots, seeds, and leaves to eat. Men leave their homes to find work in neighbouring countries.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to alleviate hunger and create healthier villages.

THE SOLUTION
Vegetables can be planted and harvested throughout the year. By providing the community with a borehole and solar irrigation system, they have surety of food even in the worst drought conditions.

IMPLEMENTATION
With the help of local leadership, we identify the communities with the greatest need. After drilling in the selected village, a solar panel, pump and irrigation system is installed. Each interested family is allotted a piece of farmland and we then assist with seed and vegetable cultivation training.

THE RESULT
When a community gets access to clean water, it changes just about everything! Clean water improves health, increases access to food, grows local economies, and helps kids spend more time in school.
